8th Pay Commission Salary: Big Blow To 48 Lakh Central Employees And 67 Lakh Pensioners

8th Pay Commission salary: Such a long demand put forth by the central employees for the 8th pay commission has finally come to an end when the central government approved the 8th pay commission in January 2025. This brought a huge relief to the employees, but a latest update made a big blow to 48 lakh employees along with 67 lakh pensioners.

How Much salary Will Increase With The Advent Of The 8th Pay Commission

According to former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission can be between 1.92 and 2.08. According to this, the minimum basic salary of the central employees is expected to increase by 10 to a maximum of 30 percentage points. The fitment factor of the 7th pay commission was 2.57 percent; however, salary increased only at 14.2 percent.

How High Will The Salary Be? About 10 To 30 More.

If the minimum basic salary of central employees were to increase by 10 percent, it would stand at Rs 30,420 per month. Let’s see its calculation: Currently, the minimum basic salary of central employees is Rs 18,000 per month. They are entitled to a dearness allowance (DA) of 53 percent. Central employees will also get the benefit of two more dearness allowances of 3 percent each before the final notification of the 8th Pay Commission. It will rise to 59 percent.

When the 8th Pay Commission comes in, minimum basic salary (Rs 18,000) and dearness allowance (59 percent) of the 7th Pay Commission will be merged. In such cases, the newly calculated minimum monthly pay for a central employee with a 10 percent increase will be 18000 + 69 percent = Rs 30,420. Similarly, if the recommendation calls for a maximum increase in salary by 30 percent, the salary will be Rs 34,020.

Where Did This 2.86% Fitment Factor Vome From

After approval of the 8th pay commission, Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary, National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) had said that the new pay commission could well consider a fitment factor of 2.86. He had said this would make a good increase in the salary of central government employees by 186 percent. If the government seals the fitment factor of 2.86, the minimum basic salary will increase from Rs 18000 to Rs 51480. Also, the pension can jump from Rs 9000 to Rs 25740.
